About Eeyore's House

Why does the site address say, "eors-house"?

Eeyore writes his name "Eor", phonetically, therefore, I had to spell his part of the site's name his way. And, as Eeyore fans already know, Eeyore's house is always getting rebuilt, which is also true for this website, which will always be updated with new letters, links, and other pages as they are created. And if there's a hole here and there, where the wind breezes through, well that's fine too, because Eeyore's house was never quite perfect.

As Eeyore said, "It just shows what can be done by taking a little trouble," said Eeyore. "Do you see, Pooh? Do you see, Piglet? Brains first and then Hard Work. Look at it! That's the way to build a house," said Eeyore proudly.

On the other hand, he also said, "It isn't as if there was anything very wonderful about my little corner. Of course for people who like cold, wet, ugly bits it is something rather special."

Tell me more about Eeyore!

Ah, now there's a story.... which A.A. Milne has already told, of course. But I can certainly say a few words for the seldom-noticed little donkey. In his natural state, Eeyore's hair is a soft light and dark grey, not purple or blue, with barely pink inner ears, and big, sad eyes. His famous wandering tail, which he thinks may have better adventures than he does, is attached with a nail and sports a bright pink bow, the only really colorful, cheery thing on him.

People seem to think he's such a gloomy fellow, and in fact he is mildly depressed most of the time, but those who listen to him carefully will notice that even when he talks about something bad happening, he always seems to find something positive about it.

"It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily.
"So it is."
"And freezing."
"Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

This is a fellow who loves to think, though I don't think he cares much for proper education:
"People come and go in this Forest, and they say, 'It's only Eeyore, so it doesn't count.' They walk to and fro saying 'Ha Ha!'. But do they know anything about A? They don't. It's just three sticks to them. But to the Educated - mark this, little Piglet - to the Educated, not meaning Poohs and Piglets, it's a great and glorious A."

"Clever!" said Eeyore scornfully, putting a foot heavily on his three sticks. "Education!" said Eeyore bitterly, jumping on his six sticks. "What is Learning?" asked Eeyore as he kicked his twelve sticks in the air. "A thing Rabbit knows! Ha!"

Perhaps most importantly to me, Eeyore is very philosophical, and looks at things in such a deep way, yet talks about them very simply.
"But, Eeyore," said Pooh, "was it a Joke, or an Accident? I mean - "
"I didn't stop to ask, Pooh. Even at the very bottom of the river, I didn't stop to say to myself, `Is this a Hearty Joke or the Merest Accident?'. I just floated to the surface and said to myself, `It's wet'. If you know what I mean. "

Why have pages of letters just for Eeyore?

Well, of all the Winnie-the-Pooh characters, Eeyore is my favorite. But, he is often ignored by letter creators who prefer Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger, "the popular bunch". Fact is, Eeyore is most like me, because I'm also a mildly depressed, philosophical, caring, but often ignored individual (*chuckles*). I'm lucky to be married to a Pooh Bear, who always does thoughtful things for his friends and has a very different way of thinking about things, and my son is a sweet, energetic, unusually wise little Roo. Like Eeyore, I don't take things for granted, but I appreciate the things I do have, yet I've got no illusions about life being a pretty-happy-wonderful thing all the time.

"It will rain soon, you see if it doesn't."
Yes, well, I happen to love the rain. And the rain loves Eeyore.
Well, that's all for now... nothing to get excited about.

"Thanks for noticing me."
